Automated Dynamic Plantar Aesthesiometer (ADPA)

Advantages over DPA

Chronic pain is a worldwide problem affecting 20% of the society. Research of pain relieving drugs is a very active field of drug development. This is especially true in case of neuropathic pain due to unresolved issues of its therapy.
For the assessment of the efficacy of analgesic drugs, the determination of mechanical hyperalgesia/allodynia is essential, which is defined as the decrease of the medical pain threshold  and can only be assessed with in vivo tests.

The ADPA automatically stimulates the animal’s hindpaw without any human intervention in a computer-controlled manner, thus eliminating the subjective human assessment and the obtained results are independent of the person performing the experiment.

MAIN ADVANTAGE

The automated dynamic plantar aesthesiometer automatically stimulates the animal’s hindpaw without any human intervention in a computer – controlled manner, thus eliminating the subjective human assessment and the obtained results are independent of the person performing the experiment.

Advantages over DPA

Enhanced Objectivity and Precision

The automation in ADPA eliminates subjective human intervention, resulting in increased objectivity during tests. The results are consistent, independent of the experimenter's experience, and provide more accurate measurements compared to the manually operated DPA.

Efficient Testing Process

With ADPA, tests are conducted faster as the automated system monitors the animals' behavior and initiates the experiment as soon as the animal calms down. This reduces the overall testing time and allows for quicker completion of experiments compared to traditional methods.

Superior Data Quality and Reproducibility

ADPA ensures higher quality test results by improving the consistency of measurements. The automation enhances the comparability and reproducibility of the data, leading to more reliable and standardized research outcomes, which are superior to those obtained using DPA.
